Tucson ER and Hospital
If you ever sat in an ER packed with sick people, you know every minute waiting for a doctor drags on like the arrival of the next season of Stranger Things… Only it’s so much, worse because you or your loved one are waiting….waiting…waiting… in pain.
A group of physicians wanted to remedy long ER wait times while providing comprehensive inpatient care so they formed Tucson ER and Hospital, which recently opened its doors at 4745 E. Broadway Blvd. The 10-bed facility has seven beds for treating ER patients and three beds for inpatients. In addition to providing little to no wait times, patients can also expect more attention based on the three to one nurse to patient ratio.
Tucson Er and Hospital is equipped with a full radiology department and can provide MRIs, CT scans, X-rays and Ultrasounds. While Tucson ER and Hospital is privately owned, patients with any commercial insurance plans (in-network) will be covered. Tucson ER and Hospital also offers a competitive, cash payment option for patients that qualify for Medicaid, Medicare or Tri-Care.

GPP caught up with Robin Sterling - Tucson ER and Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer to find out a little bit more about our Superhero Sponsor.
GPP: What do you love about your job?
Robin: I love our partners and our staff. It is refreshing to me that they have this vision. Healthcare has really taken some turns recently and it’s refreshing to me that this group of people has come together and they haven’t let go of the traditional idea of wanting to take care of people first. They are willing to take a stance and make it come true. We all have extensive ER, cardiac experience including our doctors. I’m very proud of them. They have between 10-20 years of ER experience. They have different specialities and certifications also.
GPP: Why is it so important that you support community events like Tucson Firefighter Chili Cook-Off and The Patrick Taylor Memorial (Superhero 5K)?
Robin: We feel it’s important to get involved in the community because without the community we wouldn’t be anything either. Firefighters and EMS are really part of our family. For the bulk of my nursing career I was a night ER nurse and a good part of your time is spent with the firefighters. You’re nowhere without them bringing you your patients.
GPP: What is your vision for the future of Tucson ER and Hospital?
Robin: The first thing we’re working on is getting our doors open. (FYI Tucson ER and Hospital is now open.) Beyond opening our doors we want to do community outreach programs. We have a bunch of ideas but haven’t put them down on paper yet. They’re in the back of our minds. We would like to really work on education. We would like to do at least one or two programs a month that are free to the public. I was personally thinking diabetes. Diabetes is close to my heart - my father was a diabetic so I would like to do some diabetic teaching. We also have a couple of nurses that are certified in CPR. We would like to do some CPR classes. And one of the girls here would like to get with the Girl Scouts. We would really like to do some outreach programs with the children of the community and the schools maybe.
GPP: Who is your favorite superhero?
Robin: My favorite superhero is Wonder Woman. In the old cartoons she was a nurse. A lot of nurses will have her symbol tattooed.
FYI: As the story goes, Princess Diana (Wonder Woman) swapped places with a US Army Nurse named Diana Prince who wanted to leave her post in the US for South Africa but couldn’t because of money problems. Since the two women were practically identical, Wonder Woman took on the alias of Diana Prince and began working as nurse in the hospital.
GPP: Who is a real-life superhero in your life?
Robin: Real- life superheroes for me, are the military. I have a deep set military family. My dad was in World War II. My brother in law was in the Air Force my husband retired from the Air Force. Especially growing up here in Tucson. It would be the military.
GPP: What is your greater purpose?
Robin: The first thing that comes to mind is making my kids proud. My kids are my everything. Even when I went back to Nursing School, the reason I did is I wanted my kids to be proud of me. Beyond being a mom (of two children), I wanted something else to have so I went into a second career.
