Activity 7: Host a Local Food Drive
Age: All Family and or 16 and older
In the Greater Phoenix area - more than half a million children depend on their school for meals. Since Arizona schools are closed for the rest of the year, there are hundreds of families struggling to eat. The Greater Purpose Project is working with teenagers across the state to help combat this problem by hosting food drive challenges!
Dig through your cupboards and help stock the shelves of a local foodbank in your area. Invite your neighbors to do the same. If you want to spice up your food drive; make it a competition! This works great for high school sports teams or other groups. Here's an easy way to do it!
Step 1: Divide your team into mini-teams of five people or less. Determine the duration of the food drive. How many weeks will your challenge go?
Step 2: Invite the mini-teams to reach out to their family/friends to donate items.
Step 3: Give each team a point for each donation they collect. (Ex: a jar of peanut butter is worth one point, a jar of pasta sauce is worth one point.) Give each team a point any time they create a social media post about the food drive.
Step 4: At the end of each week host a ZOOM call and have each mini-team report how many items they collected. Track the results.
Step 5: At the end of the challenge, determine the winning team and give them their prize!
